By the end of the summer, I want my days to feel calm rather than rushed.

I want to begin each morning with intention instead of immediately thinking about work.

I want to move my body because I enjoy feeling strong and capable.

I want to spend time outside while the days are long, notice the changing flowers and evening light, and enjoy the simple pleasures that make summer feel like summer.

I want to work with focus, but I don’t want work to fill every available space. I want there to be room for slow lunches, evenings with my fiancé, reading, walking and simply sitting in the garden without feeling guilty.

I want to find time to be creative without worrying about the time.

Most of all, I want my daily routine to reflect the woman I’m becoming. Someone who is confident enough to wear beautiful clothes, take care of herself, pursue meaningful work and live authentically without worrying so much about what other people think.

Words to inspire me

Instead of thinking about habits, because that made me think about work, I thought about feelings.

I want my days to feel…

  • Spacious
  • Peaceful
  • Intentional
  • Light
  • Grounded
  • Elegant
  • Nourishing
  • Unhurried
  • Joyful
  • Beautiful
  • Confident
  • Balanced
  • Healthy
  • Present
  • Hopeful

I’m also going to choose five or six of those and ask:

“What kind of routine would naturally create these feelings?”

That will help me answer the prompt in a richer, deeper way, enable me to dig underneath the ‘priority’ thoughts that are upper most in my mind.

Challenging myself

I’m going through a season of change and notice that I often write phrases like:

“By the end of the summer I want to be a different person.”

I’m reframing these phrases to sentences like:

“By the end of the summer, I want to feel free to be more fully myself.”

That feels much kinder. But also gets me out of this cycle of ‘I have to be someone else to be acceptable to myself’.

That’s an interesting thought. Is that what I really feel about myself? That I have to be someone else in order to be acceptable?

I’m definitely going to journal around that.

Because I don’t think the transformation is about becoming someone new. It’s about shedding the layers that have kept me from living as the woman I already know I am. But I always frame it in my mine as ‘becoming someone else’ which I don’t think is the most affirming thought I could have about myself.

How about you?
