Ready today’s prompt by clicking on ‘Read More’…
This month’s journaling prompts on the theme of SELF-CONFIDENCE are designed to help you build a steady, grounded belief in yourself. Not by forcing positivity, but by gently understanding how you think, feel, and show up in your everyday life.
Mini-theme: Asserting self and finding purpose
Today’s Prompt: Imagine modeling confidence from someone like me: What action would they take
These are my personal responses to today’s prompt designed to encourage you to use the prompts to develop your journaling practice. If you are not already receiving the monthly themed prompt calendar there is a sign up box below and you are very welcome to come and join us.
When I first read this prompt my heart sank and I didn’t know how to respond. I model confidence from other people, they don’t model confidence from me. That is the correct order of things. Well, that’s what I was thinking.
And so I avoided the prompt for a while. Which in itself is/could be indicative of something ese.
Sometimes when I tell people part of my story they say things like, ‘That’s amazing’, and ‘Well done’. And when I tell my story I’m proud of some of the things I’ve achieved in my life. But I haven’t done them because I felt confident, I’ve done them in spite of not feeling confident, or having great doubts, or there being huge uncertainty in whatever I was doing.
So if someone was looking at me they would just do it. Just get on with it. Not worry that everything wasn’t ready. Not be concerned that they weren’t qualified.
The biggest aspect of me that I would want people to take on board and run with is not to be concerned with what other people think. It is something that I do worry about and it is just not rational. Well it is rational from a primeval brain perspective because noone wants to be thrown out of the tribe. And that’s how I am thinking when I think, “Shall I do X because someone who was mean to me 30 years ago might see it.”
And I need to take my own advice on this, today and everyday. It’s something that stops me in my tracks. Even now. Sometimes you catch a glimpse of yourself don’t you? You catch a glimpse of how you are behaving and how you are acting out emotionally. Today is one of those days. I avoided this prompt. And now that I have I’m so pleased I completed it.
