Ready today’s prompt by clicking on ‘Read More’…

This month’s journaling prompts on the theme of CURIOSITY are designed to support you to expand your mind with generosity, not condemnation.

Mini-theme: Exploring

Today’s Prompt: Describe a small experiment you’d like to try this month.

These are my personal responses to today’s prompt designed to encourage you to use the prompts to develop your journaling practice. If you are not already receiving the monthly themed prompt calendar there is a sign up box below and you are very welcome to come and join us.

It took me a while to be able to respond to this prompt.

I have already tried new things this month, signed up for the millinery course, restarted my exercise programme, given things up for Lent.

So ‘an experiment’ didn’t seem immediately appealing as I already feel I’m trying things out. Also I felt a bit out of ideas as to what to experiment with.

It did take a while.

I’d like to do an experiment with reels. Reels as in Instagram reels. I have thought about this so often, and I just don’t do them. They seem like they will take up a lot of my time. I don’t want to be sensational, I don’t want to portray journaling as something surface level and polished. All. Those. Thoughts.

But I do want to communicate what journaling has done for me and continues to do today, to help me get through the day. Helping me untangle my thoughts. Helping me slow down. Calm down. Reassess.

And it feels a bit scary to start. I feel a bit vulnerable about how much of myself I choose to put ‘out there’. Plus I want to create something beautiful and I know that to begin with they might look a bit scrappy and unpolished. But maybe, just maybe in a few short weeks I’ll start to feel better about doing them.

I won’t know until I try.

So here’s to trying, experimenting, working it out…

Here’s to you experimenting. Trying something, maybe failing, trying again (and failing better as Samuel Beckett wrote).

Isn’t it worth the experiment though? Isn’t it worth giving it a go?

Be brave. I say that to myself as much as to you. Be brave. Experiment.
