This month’s journaling prompts on the theme of CURIOSITY are designed to support you to expand your mind with generosity, not condemnation.
Mini-theme: Softening
Today’s Prompt: Write about a habit you’d like to have or develop. Be curious about it. Why you want it, what it can add to your life?
These are my personal responses to today’s prompt designed to encourage you to use the prompts to develop your journaling practice. If you are not already receiving the monthly themed prompt calendar there is a sign up box below and you are very welcome to come and join us.
Just before I looked at this post I had been thinking about increasing my efficiency. By which I mean my project management / time efficiency habits. And those are great habits to develop in myself.
But then I remembered that with concepts like habits / routines / disciplines I tend to gravitate towards work. How I can improve myself at work.
But there is a whole world out there outside of work.
And that other world is the world of my life. There are habits I’d love to have in my ‘normal life’ as opposed to my ‘work life’.
For example, I’d love to be kinder, and more gentle. Gentle towards myself and gentle towards others. Kinder to myself and kinder to others.
I think I’d be quite a transformed person if I were kinder and gentler. I didn’t used to value those qualities in people very highly. I would value energy and optimism and those kind of qualities higher. But now I see that kindness and gentleness are really beautiful, community-focussed attributes. They transfer well to work, approaching people with kindness and gentleness when they are charging towards you like a roaring rhino can be beautifully disarming :-)
I’ve previously found that starting a 30-day journal specifically for one a habit that I’d like to develop is quite a good practice. It helps me focus on what the issue is and that amount of focussed time helps me address it. So starting a 30-day kindness/gentleness journal might be a great idea to implement.
Going back to the beginning of the year I’m thinking of what I chose for my word of the year and I think developing a habit around that would be a great idea. In fact when I did the work in January with the prompts for choosing your word for the year I was really determined to carry that word into the year with me. If I fulfil the promise of that word for myself in this year my life would definitely be changed. And also I would see that choosing a word for the year is not just a vanity metric or a January panic exercise, but actually part of that really beautiful, gentle practice of self-creation.
How about you, what habits are you curious about for yourself and how could they transform you?
