Ready today’s prompt by clicking on ‘Read More’…

This month’s journaling prompts on the theme of GROWTH are designed to help you build a better self-understanding. The prompts are phrased in a positive, supportive manner, enabling you to self-inquire without unnecessary self-criticism.

Mini-theme: Goals

Today’s Prompt: “How do I measure progress beyond results?”

These are my personal responses to today’s prompt designed to encourage you to use the prompts to develop your journaling practice. If you are not already receiving the monthly themed prompt calendar there is a sign up box below and you are very welcome to come and join us.

Isn’t progress results? For such a long time I’ve just thought about my progress in terms of results.

But if it’s not results, what is it?

I’ve made a list of how I can progress through my work:
Doing what I said I would do:
Acting in alignment with my values:
Becoming more honest with myself:
Quickly returning to myself after difficulty:

In terms of my daily working practices I can:
Plan ahead;
Protect creative time;
Finish projects;
Honour routines;
Speak about my work confidently

In terms of identity I can:
Behave more like the person I want to become:
Take myself more seriously
Become more disciplined, calm, creative, intentional and courageous

In terms of mental and emotional change:
Less overwhelm;
Recovering faster from setbacks;
Trusting myself more;
Making decisions quicker;
Feeling calmer while doing difficult things;
No longer spiralling over small failures

Measuring progress rather than outcome:
Did I show up consistently?
Did I publish the content?
Did I keep promises to myself?
Did I improve my systems?
Did I practice even when motivation disappeared?

So, as it turns out, there are many different ways to measure progress than just results. I find this really liberating.

How about you? How could you look at results in a different way and expand your character and find new ways to measure your progress as a human being and not just as a determined goal-setter.
