At first glance, it sounds like I’m asking about social media or television, but I think your answer can go much deeper. I’m thinking about distractions that pull us away from the life we want to live.

For me, it’s:

1. The distraction of worrying what other people think

This feels like the biggest one.

I’ve said several times recently that I feel I’m on the edge of becoming the woman I’m meant to be, but I sometimes hold myself back by questions like, “What will people think?”

That’s a distraction because it takes my attention away from my own values and places it on everyone else’s opinions. I was listening to a podcast yesterday where the host said that she always takes action when she is learning something new. She said that when she went to sommelier school, by the time she had finished the course she had a job lined up as a sommelier. This, after having had no experience in the wine world.

It took my breath away,

‘You can do that?’ I thought.

Yes, Sarah, yes you can.

And maybe you should take a leaf out of her book.

So, I’m going to focus on that,

I want to spend less time imagining other people’s opinions and more time becoming the woman I want to be.

2. The distraction of always thinking about work

This came up in your summer goals.

Your first instinct was to list work achievements, even though the prompt was about summer.

You might write:

I want work to have its place, but I don’t want it to occupy every spare thought. I want to make room for long evenings, walks, family and simply enjoying the season.

3. The distraction of perfectionism

I know this has cropped up before with your business.

Waiting until something is “good enough” or producing more content instead of launching because it doesn’t quite feel ready.

Perhaps:

I want to minimise the habit of overthinking and striving for perfection, and instead make steady progress with confidence.

4. The distraction of comparison

Whether it’s comparing my business, my body or my progress.

I want to focus on my own journey rather than measuring myself against other people’s highlight reels.

5. The distraction of rushing

This one feels very “summer,”

I don’t want to rush through the season thinking about autumn. I want to notice the roses, the warm evenings and the moments that won’t come again.

This summer I want to minimise the distractions that pull me away from the life I want to live. I want to spend less time worrying about what other people think and more time becoming the woman I know I can be.

I want to stop letting work fill every corner of my mind so I can enjoy the long days and simple pleasures of the season.

I also want to let go of perfectionism and overthinking, trusting that progress comes from taking small, consistent steps rather than waiting until everything feels ready.

Rephrasing the question

“What is taking up space in my mind that I no longer want to carry into the rest of the summer?”

Or even:

“What do I need to let go of to make room for the summer I want?”

For me, it’s less about eliminating distractions in a practical sense and more about creating space, for confidence, presence, and the life I want to experience.

I wonder if you resonate with that too?
